The restaurant’s welcoming and friendly service, along with a cozy atmosphere that evokes a sense of African culture, are commonly noted strengths. While the venue is small and can become crowded, especially in the evenings, many recommend ordering for pickup. The establishment’s capacity constraints and popularity during peak times are recurring points of feedback, but overall, Suya Academy is regarded as a must-visit spot for suya enthusiasts in London.
Happened just to walk past this place, got drawn in by the smell and the fire on the grill. Well worth trying, the gentleman serving me was real nice & the portion of beef Suya was great. Well seasoned (option to go spicy or not), nice salad option (onion, tomato & cucumber) - large portion is £15, medium £10. Definitely keen to try more from this place. Small spot and sometimes you’ll need to wait depending on the meat you want
Authentic, delicious Nigerian suya. The manager is real nice and welcoming. Went in the peak of winter & initially wasn't busy. Was served sweet ginger tea while waiting for my order. Was worth the wait. Gets very busy at night, best to order for pickup as the shop isn't suited for large crowds.
Best suya I've ever tasted in UK. The beef was succulent and the bbq effect flavour was so good. chicken was lovely juicy not dried out just perfect. Went back the next day! Had to tell my mates at gateline woolwich arsenal station to go there ASAP
Yesterday, I decided to check out a place called Suya Academy. I’d never been there before, so I thought, why not? To my surprise, when I walked in, the atmosphere was incredible — the energy was just right. It genuinely felt like being back in Africa, with the vibe and the way everything was being done. I was really excited. I asked how long they’d been open, and to my surprise, they said three years — I couldn’t believe I’d never noticed it before! The staff were very customer-focused; the general manager asked me what I wanted. At first, I wasn’t sure, so I glanced at the whiteboard at the back displaying the prices. My initial thought was that it seemed a bit pricey, but I decided to give it a go since I was feeling peckish — it was around 10 p.m. I ordered a large Tozo Suya for £15. When I got outside and opened it, I was genuinely shocked. The meat was so tender — I couldn’t believe how soft it was! The flavour was incredible — my taste buds were dancing! I kept wondering, why does this taste so good? Why am I so excited about it? Why am I already thinking about promoting it and leaving a review? Honestly, it’s the best Suya I’ve ever had. I’ve tried Alhaji Suya in Greenwich (which is rated 4.5) and Peckham, Ade Suya in Charlton and Thamesmead, and even Suya in Newcastle — but this was on another level. I can’t lie — it’s absolutely fantastic.
